| Like nectar, fruit is a popular food for many bird species. Apples and oranges are the most popular. Adding a fruit feeder to your backyard may attract many of the fruit-eating birds that might not come to traditional seed feeders. Attracting fruit-eating birds can take time and patience. If you have mature fruit trees or bushes, or if you have seen fruit-eating birds in your yard or nearby, you will more readily attract fruit-eaters. Fruit can be offered in hanging feeders, nectar feeders, on platform feeders or in wire feeders designed for holding pieces of fruit or fruit suet. A tray feeder with a protective cover works well or skewer orange halves onto an oriole feeder. |
